Pat Lyons, North Region Health Equity Program Manager, Endeavor Health

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Evanston, IL and currently live in West Rogers Park on the north side of Chicago.

What led you to your current organization?

I took a job at Highland Park Hospital fresh out of high school to support myself during college, and I found myself learning new skills and developing a curiosity for different aspects of healthcare. Over the past 14 years, I have been passionately chasing that curiosity in various administrative and operational roles at Endeavor Health (formerly NorthShore) and it has been an enriching journey.

What do you hope to accomplish as a member of CSAC?

As a member of CSAC, I hope to amplify the work that is happening in our communities and deepen our network of connections to further expand into the Northern Chicagoland and North Suburban areas. I also hope to contribute towards advancing community participation in research and developing innovative strategies and interventions that address what the community identifies as concerns that are important to them.

What are some issues in your community you hope to resolve?

One key area of focus for me is addressing social determinants of health and recognizing that factors like housing, education, and economic stability profoundly influence health outcomes. Additionally, I am passionate about minimizing the barrier that language access and health literacy place on patient’s ability to access care. Furthermore, I am dedicated to eliminating the stigma associated with being labeled as “non-compliant” patients. Instead of placing blame on individuals, it’s crucial to shine a light on social factors that impede marginalized communities’ ability to achieve and maintain good health.

What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?

Most people would be surprised to know that I have always dreamed of owning a catering and event planning business. I enjoy hosting, decorating and coordinating events and find every reason to have a dinner party!
