Morris Reed, Esq., CEO of Westside Health Authority

Where are you from?

I am from Chicago’s west side, (Lawndale, Garfield Park, Austin) communities where my father grew up. My mother migrated from Natchez, Mississippi as a teen.

What led you to your current organization?

My mother, Jacqueline Reed is the founder of Westside Health Authority. She inspired me with the passions of the Civil Rights Movement and the role of activism and community organizing in improving health and wellness for African American populations. I worked on several projects and provided legal and financial assistance prior to becoming the CEO to continue the legacy.

What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CSAC?

My goal is to engage the CSAC with local grassroots movements in health and promote the opportunities for partnership and research on the West Side of Chicago.

What are some issues in your community you hope to resolve?

Increasing the lifespan for African Americans living in west side zip codes. Identifying those areas and advocating for policy changes that will impact the results.

What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?

I have four children and seven siblings.
